Lazarovden

Lazarovden is a Christian holiday that bears the name of St. Lazarus . The name Lazarus is a symbol of health and longevity. Lazarus was a friend of Jesus Christ. When he died three days after his death he e raised . God says, "Lazarus come forth ," and Lazarus revives that comes out of his tomb .
Lazarovden is celebrated on the eighth day before Easter. Because Easter is determined by the lunar calendar , not the solar , Lazarus falls each year on a different date , but always on Saturday.
On this day perform ritual Lazaruvane . Young women called " lazarki " pick flowers for gums that will embroil the feast of Palm Sunday ( the next day ) . Girls are dressed in traditional folk costumes. They go round the houses of the village, singing songs and ritual lazarski blessing for health, happiness and prosperity. Master of the house gave them eggs , money , fruit and small gifts. In the past Lazar young men from the village were asked the hand of his bride .
The holiday brings spring mood and looking forward to both the participants and the residents and visitors of villages and towns . It was believed that a girl that is not Lazaruvane can not marry . Therefore it was necessary for every girl from the village to lazaruva .
